Tennis Player Left Side

The 2025 Season Starts Monday
June 2!

Let the fun begin!

Tennis Player Right Side

It was fun even if you lost. There was just the right pressure to win but you weren't blasted if you lost.

Thomas T Holtz

Mark Jala and the leadership team, and 4 Captains -- Brad K, Ben B, Scott T, and Mark J did a great job of running this fun league. The fact that about 1/4 -1/3 matches went to a third set tiebreaker tells you how much good planning and parity there is in this league ! The t-shirt Bob Minor arranged for us all to have were a nice remembrance of this season as well. This is what the best of Roanoke Tennis is !

Dwight Holland, MD, PhD

I enjoyed meeting so many other men that love playing tennis . The league gathered together so many players that are now considered friends. The tennis matches were competitive and FUN-- we played just for the joy of outdoor organized tennis. Playing in The Roanoke Mens Summer League is one of the best parts of summer-- year after year.

1st time playing in summer league, plan to do it again annually. Enjoyed various levels of play, flexible schedule and meeting the captains and other players. Nice alternative to USTA. Let’s keep it going.

Francis Lenski

Competitive yet friendly.
For the most part players played on the appropriate court of their rating.
Website was professionally done and kept up to date.
See you next year.

The summer league is less intense than the USTA league and only includes doubles play. There’s more emphasis on having fun than winning. I like the 3 levels of play on the 3 courts. It makes for close matches as seen in the many matches that went to tiebreakers. The Monday and Thursday match scheduling worked well with my personal schedule.

After several years of playing USTA, it was refreshing to play tennis in a league to help me remember again how fun tennis can be. Having four equally matched teams with spirited fun and friendly competition was excellent. Dana Ackley did an outstanding job and I appreciated his efforts. I truly enjoyed playing RSTL and plan on signing up again next year.

Summer Roanoke Men’s Tennis league was both fun and competitive tennis with great sportsmanship demonstrated by all players. Lots of laughter and “great shot” heard at match’s. Playing matches at Roanoke Rivers Edge and clay courts at Hunting Hills CC are ideal venues for all matches. Will definitely sign up to play again next summer.

About the Summer League

For over a decade, the Roanoke Valley Men’s Summer Outdoor Doubles Tennis League has provided a local, fun and competitive outdoor tennis league for men over the age of 18 who self-rate in the 3.0 to 4.0 range. Our goal continues to be the creation of a welcoming tennis environment, based on friendly competition.

We regret that our league is not set up to handle tennis beginners. If you are a beginner, we recommend you contact one or more of the following about opportunities for beginner tennis lessons: SunTennisCenter; Roanoketennis.org, the recreation departments of Roanoke City, Salem, and Roanoke County; and the local country clubs, Hunting Hills, Hidden Valley, and Roanoke Country Club.

We are a non-profit, all-volunteer group interested in promoting tennis in this area. We are not associated with the USTA. Playing in this league DOES NOT affect your USTA or UTR ratings.
